Animal Signals

Identify vocal structure, behavior, and the information carried by calls of individual species.

we study animal communication in a community context, from the codification of repertoires to the development of interspecific behavioral models
Conservation Research
By measuring impacts across a gradient of human land-use scenarios, we can test for signs of behavioral change on a community scale.

Identify vocal structure, behavior, and the information carried by calls of individual species.

Understand how animals use information from other species, and how signal combinations define distinct risk states.

Evaluate differences in communication and community dynamics across a gradient of forest conditions.

Our research approach
We connect knowledge of life histories with acoustic recording, spatial mapping, and contemporary analytical tools. New tools extend what we can observe but are not substitutes for in-situ observation and discovery.
We have classroom models for everything else: solar systems, extinct animal skeletons, organelles of bacterium…
where are the ecological models?
This showcase project demonstrates how scientists and educators can leverage the most current data visualization tools to fast-track the teaching of complex ecological principals. AveRosetta is our first implementation of an immersive teaching tool connecting rainforest research, spatial sound, and ecological visualization.
